Traditional methods of creating European style skull mounts involves everything from power washers to ant piles and everything in between. We're here to tell you to save yourself the hassle and poor results and drop your skull off at our shop!
When it comes to preserving your trophy in a classy and esthetic way, European skull mounts have become the new cool. From modern homes in Los Angeles, to rustic cabins in Wyoming, the intrigue and appeal of a skull mount has never been higher.
So the question of the year is, "what makes beetle skull cleaning so much better?"
The answer is simple but multi-faceted...
Bone Complexity
Animal skulls can have over 100 bones! Not to mention the teeth.
If you've ever tried boiling a skull, you have probably pulled it up out of the muck after a few hours of roasting it to a long second death, only to find that now the teeth have been lost in the bottom of the boiling pot. Then after another hour or so of scraping away at the meat of the nose cavity, while crunching all the delicate sinus cartilage, you realize that the beautiful European mount you had a vision for is now a distant and unattainable memory.
Beetles Are Gentle
While they slowly eat the flesh away from the bone they weave their way into all the nooks and crannies of the skull. Places you'll find you can never get by boiling, power washing, or any other method you may have tried. The finished product is a beautifully preserved specimen of your hard earned trophy.
Now add on Coloration
All that fatty tissue surrounding the bone of a skull is dissolved by heat and water and bone is porous! So that beautiful white bone will become a yellowy, stinky, dried out mess.
With enough cleaning throughout the process, boiling, maceration, power washing, etc. can still result in beautiful mounts. We exaggerate some for the point. The bottom line is that your time is likely much better spent out in the woods, with your family, or enjoying time with friends, than it is carving away at a skull. The cost of beetle cleaned skulls is very low compared with your time. We process a lot of skulls so we have the process down to a "T" and will ensure you won't end up with a stinky and ugly mess hanging on your wall when we are finished.
